Exhibition of collector Vladimir Pesic opens in Belgrade

From the extensive collection, 36 paintings were selected, reflecting the main trends of Russian painting of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.

An exhibition of masterpieces of Russian art from the collection of Vladimir Pesic has opened at the Salon of the Belgrade City Museum.

From the vast collection, 36 paintings were chosen, representing the principal movements of Russian painting from the 19th to the first half of the 20th century. Some works are being shown to the public for the first time. Among them is the “Suprematist Composition” by Ivan Kudryashov, a student of Kazimir Malevich. Eight icons are also on display—unlike Serbian icons, they are adorned with gilded and silvered covers and are kept in kiots. The exhibition has become the central event of the Days of Moscow in Serbia, which are being held in Belgrade after a nine-year pause.

“Serbia shows great interest in Russian art and Russian culture. I believe that the connection between the two countries is at the highest level. It is very important to keep reminding people of this—through culture, through Russian art, and through paintings on historical themes that unite our two brotherly nations,” notes collector Vladimir Pesic.
