The exhibition “The Splendor of Russian Painting of the 19th–20th Centuries. Masterpieces from the Collection of Vladimir Pesic” has opened in Paris, according to TASS. The opening ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 20. Visitors can view the exhibition at the Russian Spiritual and Cultural Orthodox Center. The event has been organized to mark the Center’s 10th anniversary.
According to the collector himself, the project encompasses a century and a half of Russian painting. It presents more than ten major movements of Russian art, including Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Russian Art Nouveau, Cubism, Cubo-Futurism, Suprematism, Socialist Realism, Expressionism, and others. In his words, the term “splendor” refers to the grandeur and breadth of the Russian soul.
The exhibition features nearly twenty works of art that have never before been shown to a wide audience. Vladimir Pesic emphasized that the educational dimension of the project is no less important. In addition to masterpieces by Russian artists, visitors will also become acquainted with key milestones in Russian history.
The symbol of the exhibition is the painting “Shining Domes”, created by Grand Duchess Olga Romanova, the sister of Russia’s last emperor. Among the exhibits are also works by Vladimir Tatlin, Sergei Senkin, Vyacheslav Pakulin, Mikhail Yakovlev, Pyotr Konchalovsky, and other artists.
After Paris, the exhibition will travel to Brussels, where it will be presented in the autumn.
As previously reported by Russian World, Russian and Serbian collector Vladimir Pesic was awarded for his contribution to the promotion of Russian art in Serbia. He received the Golden Badge of the Cultural and Educational Society of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia.
For many years, Pesic has been actively engaged with Russian art, supporting it and promoting it internationally. He arrived in Moscow with his family in 1983 and lived in Russia until 1997.
Vladimir Pesic inherited his interest in collecting from his ancestors. He is a member of several international collectors’ organizations, including Russian associations. Masterpieces from his collection have been exhibited at numerous exhibition venues and cultural institutions.
