An Exhibition of Russian Art Opens in Paris with the Foundation’s Support
For the first time in four years, an exhibition of Russian art has opened in Paris with the support of the Russia abroad heritage foundation. The author of the project is Serbian collector Vladimir Pesic.
The exhibition ” The Splendor of Russian Painting of the 19th–20th Centuries. Masterpieces from the Collection of Vladimir Pesic” spans more than 150 years of the history of Russian painting through 12 artistic movements, from 19th-century realism to Soviet nonconformist art of the 1980s. All 18 paintings presented in the exhibition are being shown to the public for the first time.
The collection includes “The Struggle of Ideologies” by Vladimir Tatlin, “Suprematist Composition” by Sergei Senkin, “Still Life with a View of Saint Isaac’s Cathedral” by Vyacheslav Pakulin, “Portrait of a Girl” by Mikhail Yakovlev, “Blooming Garden” and “Summer Flowers in the Park” by Nikolai Bogdanov-Belsky, “Self-Portrait” by Sergei Malyutin, the creator of the Russian matryoshka doll, “Black Sea Landscape” by Pyotr Konchalovsky, as well as a stage design sketch for the opera “Sadko” by Fyodor Fyodorovsky, who served as Chief Artist of the Bolshoi Theatre from the 1930s to the 1950s.
A particularly noteworthy exhibit and one of the symbolic works of the exhibition is the painting “Shining Domes” by Grand Duchess Olga Romanova. According to V. Pesic, its subject resonates with the exhibition venue itself — the domes of the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Spiritual and Cultural Centre in Paris.
The exhibition runs from 20 May to 30 June, open daily from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The address of the Russian Orthodox Spiritual and Cultural Centre is 1 Quai Branly, Paris.
