A ceremonial opening of the exhibition “Constellation of Famous Russian Artists of the 19th and 20th Centuries from the Collection of Vladimir Pesic” took place in the Serbian capital on October 21. The event became one of the central highlights of the Days of Moscow in Belgrade.
Guests were welcomed by Sergey Cheremin, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of the City of Moscow. He pointed to the centuries-old spiritual ties uniting the Russian and Serbian peoples, noting that Serbia is today the only country in Europe where such cultural events can be held.
According to the organizers, the uniqueness of the exhibition lies in the opportunity to introduce the Serbian public to authentic works by outstanding Russian masters. “The artists presented at the exhibition truly deserve attention: they are academicians of painting and recognized masters who received their education and developed artistically in one of Europe’s most important artistic centers — Moscow,” the press release states.
The Belgrade public will be able to see works by Stanislav Zhukovsky, Leonid i Rima Brailovsky, Stepan Kolesnikov, and other prominent Russian painters.
Vladimir Pesic, one of the largest collectors of Russian art outside Russia, has already presented his collection to the Serbian public three times. His collection represents a fully developed museum collection reflecting the principal trends of Russian painting from the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
