For Brussels, the exhibition will be a unique cultural event, as it will be the first exhibition of classics of Russian painting in Belgium in 13 years, as well as the only place in the world outside Russia where original works by the great masters of Russian art can currently be seen.
Thirty-seven years of collecting experience and dedicated work, together with the meticulous selection of works by Russian masters, have made Vladimir Pesic one of the most significant collectors of Russian art outside Russia. In terms of its scope, as well as the impeccable curatorial approach to the selection of artists and their works, this Collection goes far beyond the scope of an ordinary private collection.
The Collection of Vladimir Pesic comprises over 330 artworks of Russian and foreign painting and applied arts, icons, and unique antique ivory objects. Pieces from the Collection have been featured numerous times at prestigious art exhibitions, as well as in six solo exhibitions in Serbia and Paris.
The Brussels exhibition has been conceived as a visual journey through 150 years of Russian art history. It will feature 18 works representing 12 artistic movements of the 19th and 20th centuries: Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Russian Art Nouveau, Neo-Russian style, Cubism, Cubo-Futurism, Suprematism, Constructivism, Socialist Realism, Nonconformism, and Expressionism.
All the works have exceptional artistic value, representing masterpieces by renowned artists. At the same time, the exhibition also has an educational mission: it will introduce to the public not only various artistic movements, but also key moments in Russian history. All the works will be shown to the Belgian public for the first time.
The symbol of the exhibition will be Radiant Domes (1920s), the most significant work of Grand Duchess Olga Romanova, sister of Emperor Nicholas II. Romanova, one of the most recognized Russian female artists, depicted a winter landscape with a church and sunlit blue domes.
