MOSCOW, 30 October. /TASS/. The exhibition “The Splendour of Russian Painting of the 19th–20th Centuries. Masterpieces from the Collection of Vladimir Pesic” has opened at the Russian House in Brussels. The exhibition organisers informed TASS of the event.

“I am very pleased that the opening of my exhibition at the Russian House in Brussels, which has been in the planning for almost four years, coincides with a concert dedicated to such a wonderful holiday as Russia’s National Unity Day,” Pesic said, according to a statement released by the press service.

This is the first exhibition of classical Russian painting in Belgium in 13 years, and also the only place in the world outside Russia where original works by Russian masters can be seen. The Collection of Vladimir Pesic comprises more than 330 paintings and works of decorative and applied art by Russian and international artists, icons, and unique antique ivory objects. The collection has been presented to the public on numerous occasions at prestigious art exhibitions, as well as in six solo exhibitions in Serbia and Paris.

The exhibition features 18 works representing 12 movements in Russian art of the 19th and 20th centuries: Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Russian Art Nouveau, Neo-Russian Style, Cubism, Cubo-Futurism, Suprematism, Constructivism, Socialist Realism, Nonconformism and Expressionism. All the paintings are of considerable artistic value, comprising masterpieces and works by renowned artists. At the same time, the exhibition also has an educational dimension, introducing visitors not only to the various movements in Russian art but also to important episodes in Russian history.

The symbol of the exhibition is “Radiant Domes” (1920s), the most significant work by Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna Romanova, sister of Emperor Nicholas II. One of the most renowned Russian women artists, Romanova depicted a winter landscape featuring a church with blue domes shining in the sunlight.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors until 14 December.
