Valerian Mikhailovich Formozov

(October 6, 1921, p. Teplev, Nizhny Novgorod province. – 2004, Moscow) – painter.
V.M. Formozov was born in the family of a priest (later his father worked as an accountant). Since childhood, Formozov was keen on art. In 1937-1940 he studied at the Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod) Art School. From 1940 to 1946 he was in military service, participated in the Great Patriotic War. In 1952 he graduated Latvia Academy of Arts (he learned from professor Tilberg). His diploma painting was a portrait of Academician Theodor Zalkalns (this painting was exhibited at the All-Union Exhibition of theses in Moscow). From 1953 to 1955, Valerian Formozov worked as an hourly teacher and assistant at the drawing department of the Latvian Academy of Arts. At the same time he taught at the Riga School of Applied Arts.
Since 1964 V.M. Formozov lived and worked on Verkhnaya Maslovka in Moscow, as well as in the village of Kashino, Tver Region, where he had his own house. He proved himself as a portrait painter and landscape painter. A number of paintings devoted to military topics.
The artist’s works are kept in the Latvian Art Museum, in many museums in Russia and in theprivate collections not only in Russia, but also in France, Britain, Germany and the United States.
