MOTHER-OF-GOD OF KAZAN

Our Lady of Kazan, also called Mother-of-God of Kazan – a holy icon of the highest stature within the Russian Orthodox Church, representing the Virgin Mary as the protector and patroness of the city of Kazan, and a palladium of all of Russia, known as the Holy Protectress of Russia.

From what has been said by Komashko Natalia Ignatievna,
expert of the Central Andrey Rublev museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art, Moscow:

The icon was painted in the middle of the 19th century, on a 16th century board. On the back of the icon is the text of the order.
